Called To Missions In 2010
“As a bona fide fisher of men, you’ll have to cast a far net.”
Our History
Brett, his wife, Bobbie, and children Emma and Ethan have answered the call of God to serve and to build the Kingdom of God in Uganda, East Africa, having moved to Kampala in August 2012.
Even while serving overseas, Brett and Bobbie have remained members of their home church, Engrafted Word Church (EngraftedWord.org) in Cookeville, TN since 1995, where they met and were married in 1999. Their testimony is one of servitude, where they served in almost every ministry capacity in their 17 years at EWC, including collectively as Elders and Youth Pastors. In addition, the Scudders served as Sunday school teachers, children’s ministry workers, jail ministry and many other Helps Ministry areas. They are living witnesses that God promotes the faithful (1 Timothy 1:12)!
In 2002, Brett and Bobbie welcomed their daughter Emma, and in 2005, their son Ethan completed their family.
In 2010, while they were on a mission trip to Honduras, the Spirit of the LORD began to deal heavily with the Scudders about leaving their home in Tennessee and serving Him on foreign soil. On August 29, 2010, the LORD confirmed His Word again to the Scudder’s through their pastor, Chris McMichael, by saying “as a bona fide fisher of men, you’ll have to cast a far net”. From that time forward, the Scudders have set their sights on the spiritual needs in other countries and reaching the world with the Gospel of Christ.
They were ordained and sent out into the mission field by their amazing pastors, Pastor Chris and Manda McMichael. They are also members of the Righteous Preachers Network (RPN) and Mark Barclay Ministries.
About
Pastor Brett
Brett has known the call of God was on his life since he was 7, winning his first friend to Jesus. He grew up in various towns across America, from Michigan, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Tennessee, before attending and graduating from Tennessee Technological University in 1999, with a major in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to work in various areas of the Automotive Industry for over 13 years as he awaited God’s timing for ministry.
Though raised in a Christian home, Brett did not always walk with God growing up. In February of 1994, in his university dorm room, Brett recommitted his heart to Christ, but had not yet surrendered his life. His dreams of becoming a country musician were dashed when the LORD asked him, “Do you believe the words you are singing?” Brett honestly replied, “No sir, I do not”, to which the Holy Spirit asked, “Then why are you singing them?” From that point on, Brett has faithfully pursued God’s plans and purposes for his life!
While attending church at Cookeville Christian Fellowship (now Engrafted Word Church), Brett gained his ministerial training under Pastor Kenneth Vaughn (12 years) and Pastor Chris McMichael (5 years) before being separated to full-time ministry in 2012. While at CCF/EWC, Brett served as the Evangelism Leader, Church Elder, and in many other capacities throughout the church. He attended SMTI Bible School during his time at EWC.
Brett’s passion is to evangelize the lost, make disciples of Jesus, and to help The Church reach its fullest potential in the lives of Christians all over the world!
About
Mrs. Bobbie
Bobbie was born and raised in Smith County, Middle Tennessee, before attending and graduating from Tennessee Tech University in May 1999 with a degree in Management Information Systems. She worked in the IT Department for a global transportation company for 12 years.
Bobbie also grew up in a Christian home, yet did not always follow Christ. In 1995, she attended a service at Cookeville Christian Fellowship where the LORD powerfully ministered to her, and radically changed her life. She is fond of saying, “one touch from God can change your life forever!”
Bobbie’s heart is to be an example of a Godly woman, not only to her children, but also to other women in the church. Most recently, she led the ‘Women of the Word’ ladies ministry at the church in Kampala.
About
Ethan And Emma
Emma is currently a university student at Tennessee Tech in her hometown of Cookeville, TN. Her love for music and ministry is being cultivated as she serves in the Worship Team at Engrafted Word Church. She is also serving in the Children’s ministry and in the College and Career Group. Emma desires to be a Christian professional, while she seeks the LORD’s calling in His Kingdom.
Ethan is a junior at Heritage International School in Kampala. Although he has mostly been studying remotely over the past year and a half, he continues to stay involved in the school’s weekly Chapel services, both teaching and leading in Worship. His long-term goal is to return to the US after graduating from high school, and serve in the local church as he pursues ministry training.
